“The place which sun earliest shine on is Jiantang in eastern; the place which is most beautiful in the world is Shangri-la on the Naizi River”. It was the British writer James Hilton's novel, The Lost Horizon, some 50 years ago, that brought fame to an unknown and uncontaminated place- Shangri-La - a household name. The novel described in great detail the stunning scenery in the area: the azure sky, the breathtaking beauty and the hospitality of unsophisticated people who welcome weary travelers to their homeland. In fact, the place is Diqing Autonomous Prefecture in Yunnan Province.
Diqing is located the center of national attraction for “Three Parallel Rivers of Yunnan Protected Areas”, including three countries, Zhongdian, Weixi and Deqin. Zhongdian is the capital of Diqing and Jiantang is the city of Zhongdian Country. There are lots of snow mountains and grassy marshland. Only in Zhongdian,there are more than 470 mountains which attitude over 4000m.
In Tibetan, Shangri- La means a place of good fortune and luck. Shangri-La means the perfect living environment and ideal state in Tibetan people, which has most beautiful snow mountains and gorges in the world, has mystically golden temples, has still lakes around with forests and has large boundless grasslands with cows and sheep.
13 minority nationality are friendly living in this beautiful land, such as Zang, Han, Naxi, Yi, Bai and Hui. They have different life style, costume and accessories, distinguishing residence features and wedding customs. All of these contain the original features of their own race, so they has been formed the unique amorous feelings.
